Enabling livelihoods, income generation

‘Wadi’ means a small orchard- a tree-based farming system that consists of fruit tree suitable to the area or a combination of trees with forestry species. Two or more tree crops are selected under the Wadi model to minimise biological and marketing risks.

This NABARD supported project is being implemented in six blocks of the district.

This project aims at evolving a holistic self-sustaining model and enhancing livelihood opportunities through  plantation of fruit plants like mango, lemon, kaju, jackfruits etc. in wasteland and horticulture development, soil conservation and water resource development. It is accomplished by various training and capacity building programmes. This increases the opportunity of income generation in current available resources. It also aims at women development by SHGs formation, need based and income generation training.

MSSVP supports additional welfare schemes for farmers such as drudgery reduction of women by providing glass roof tiles, smokeless chulhas and access to drinking water. Information related to health and nutrition is also provided in this programme in addition to conducting awareness programmes highlighting importance of kitchen gardening and its benefits.
